Acidic foods and the cruelty we inflict on animals

Did you know that dairy is one of the most acidic foods you can eat.  In fact all animal products are acidic.  An acidic condition is unhealthy and signals to bacteria in and around the body that the body is weak, decaying and dying.  This signals microorganisms in the body to do their job and break down flesh.  Not what we want to be happening in our bodies is it?  When we eat animals we also ingest antibiotic drugs, as antibiotics are routinely administered to factory-farmed livestock and fish.

One result of the stress placed on our bodies by ingesting animal products is an increased risk of cancer.  It is well known now that every minute  a few cells out of the trillions in our bodies become cancerous.  A healthy immune system can and does routinely locate and destroy those cells, thus preventing any cancers from developing in a healthy body.   When the immune system’s forces are overworked, by the trans fats and pathogen load in animal foods, they may be spread too thin to detect cancers and prevent them developing.  Vegan diets not only decrease the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases but builds and strengthens your immune system.  Cancer is clearly and positively linked with eating animal foods.  What we do to the animals we do to ourselves.  By being kind to animals we are also being kind to ourselves and the planet.  Go Vegan today.  The picture above is two of 2 bobby calves that were discarded by the dairy industry and destined to be killed.  They were rescued by Anthony Walsgott from the save a cow programme and I looked after them for a short time while a permanent home was found for them.  They grieved terribly for their mothers and it was incredibly sad to see these innocent little babies suffering so much.

Mango and Berry Parfait

Ingredients

  • 3 cups mango diced (or you could use any fruit of your choice like strawberries or mulberries)
  • 4 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp raw vanilla extract or ½ vanilla bean, ground
  • 2 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tbsp lime zest
  • ½ cup raw agave nectar
  • Fresh berries and a sprig of mint (you could substitute another fruit of your choice here too)

Directions

  1. Blend together all ingredients except berries
  2. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours or overnight
  3. Layer in cups with fresh or frozen berries of your choice.
  4. Finish with a layer of berries and a sprig of fresh mint

Turmeric Veggie Dip

Ingredients

  • 1 cup soaked cashews
  • 1 cup young coconut flesh (1 – 2 young coconuts)
  • 1/4 coconut water (from young coconut)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 2 tbsp agave nectar
  • 1 sliced cucumber
  • Optional: veggies to dip (celery, carrots, etc.)

Directions

Place all ingredients in food processor and process until smooth. This will take a bit and you will need to stop and scrape down the sides occasionally. Slice cucumber and pipe the dip onto rounds. Alternatively, cut up veggies into sticks and use as a dip.
